The New Fiat 500 – Small Car, Big Cargo

Hello small car affectionates! It’s about time we put up an example of the Fiat 500s that keep coming by to get outfitted for everyone’s outdoor needs.

This little guy has been set up with a custom length Yakima Track, paired with Yakima’s ever-reliable Control Towers. This system will let the end user position the bars wherever they need to accommodate whatever they can throw at it. Also, Yakima’s Control Towers will allow the owner to clips the towers and crossbars on and off the car in a matter of seconds!

New Yakima HighLite Hitch Mounted Bike Rack

Yakima has come out with a new hitch mounted bike rack and it weighs less than 20lbs! We don’t sell a hitch mounted bike rack that weighs less. We recently installed a Hitch on a 2008 Volkswagon GTI, and the customer decided to add on a Yakima High Lite 2 Bike carrier. The High Lite comes in both white and silver, and either a 2 bike or 3 bike option. Naturally, he decided to get the white with his white GTI.

With the exception of its very low weight, it boosts all the features that you desire in a hitch mounted bike rack. The High Lite will fit both 1.25″ and 2″ hitch receivers right out of the box, so it will fit every hitch receiver there is. It also does not require a wrench every time you want to put the rack on or off your vehicle, most others do.

Everything locks! The rack itself locks to your car/hitch receiver, and all the bikes lock to the rack with the included cable lock. The only accessories you may need is a Yakima TubeTop, but only if you have full suspension frames or oddly shaped frames.

The rack folds down when not in use, and tilts down to get into your trunk or hatch. Also, the High Lite does come with anti sway cradles, that keep your bikes secure, and prevents them from swinging into each other or even the back of your car.

Also, we installed the hitch for this 2008 VW GTI. This is a Class 1 Curt Hitch #11074. It has a tongue weight of 200 lbs and a tow capacity of 2000 lbs.

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited w/ Freedom Top – Track Mounted Roof Rack System + Yakima Spare Time – Spare Tire Bike Carrier!

As one can expect, Jeep owners love to spend time outdoors with their toys more often than not. Consequently, you’ll need a safe and secure way to get these toys to your destination. Fortunately for the Jeep world, Rack Attack is here to help.

Our Wrangler Unlimited owner came to us looking for a solution to carry kayaks and bikes. He wasn’t comfortable with standard clip on racks and wanted something that could afford a larger bar spread to securely haul his boats. The particular Wrangler in question was also fitted with the hard fiberglass “Freedom Top”; a 3-piece roof system that features t-top type panels that can be removed to let the sun shine in without removing the whole top. This hard top also provides a perfect platform to permanently mount a set of Yakima 60″ Tracks with Bolts. To prevent interference with the t-top panels, the tracks had to be trimmed so they would only span the rear portion of the hard top.

Once the tracks were mounted with the supplied bolts, Yakima LP1 bases were installed. These bases allow Yakima Control Towers to be fastened down securely; and based on the overall span of the roof 58″ Yakima Crossbars were fit to the Control Towers. Finally, a 4 pack of Yakima SKS Lock Cores were installed to lock the towers down to the vehicle, deterring would be thieves.

To tally up the entire system installed on this Jeep you will have the following:

This solves the problem of getting boats to the water… but the Jeep owner wants to have fun on dry land as well!

The Yakima SpareTime allows the user to carry up to 2 bikes utilizing the rear-mounted spare tire on the Jeep. While the SpareTime comes with it’s own locks to secure the rack to your vehicle and your bikes to the rack; we at Rack Attack appreciate the convenience of using only one key whenever possible. We kindly matched the Yakima SKS Lock Cores from the Control Towers to those in the SpareTime at no extra charge.

A detailed view of the Yakima SpareTime spare tire mounted bike carrier. This rack is extremely easy to install, remove, and use everyday on most vehicles with a rear mounted spare tire. Yakima includes their “SwitchBlade” anti-sway feature to prevent bikes from swinging front to back when accelerating or decelerating. And a handy feature for after the ride; integrated bottle openers finish this rack in style.

Jeep Liberty “Skyslider” can indeed have a roof rack!

Here at Rack Attack, one question remains constant: “Can I get a rack atop my new Liberty with the sliding roof?” The answer is: absolutely. Now the Jeep will be able to carry an extra 130lbs of cargo atop the roof, and the crossbars may be attached and removed in under one minute. This will allow you to take your kayaks, your bikes, cargo container or whatever-else-you-think-of to your destination, all while enjoying the open air feeling the Liberty Skyslider roof can provide!

Porsche 911 Carrera C4S 996 – Custom Roof Rack & Cargo Box

When you need to get to the mountain fast and in style there’s only one vehicle to turn to. A Porsche. Our customer came to us with his 2004 Porsche 911 C4S looking for ways to get his skis to the mountain. Yes, that’s an all-wheel drive Porsche convertible we’re talking about here. Fortunately, he uses the optional hard top during the winter months.

If you’re familiar with the Porsche 911 nomenclature, this would be of the 996 era. Meaning a rack such as this would be applicable to 911′s from 1998-2005.

Atop the factory hard top we mounted a Yakima Fixed Point rack system consisting of the following:

Yakima Landing Pad 7

Yakima Control Towers

Yakima 48″ Crossbars

Yakima SKS Locks

Together, these components create an ultra secure base rack system that any rack accessory can easily be attached to.

Based on the customers wishes, maximum ski length, and desired appearance; a Yakima LoPro 15 box was mounted on the Porsche. This box allows you to carry up to a 225cm ski as well as duffel bags, boots, etc. It has a sleek low profile and a look that lends itself to the lines of the Porsche quite perfectly.

Thule 594XT Bike Tray – Roof Mount Upright Bike Rack

The Thule 594XT Side Arm is a great bike rack for those looking to mount bikes directly to their Thule, Yakima, and Most factory racks without having to remove the front tire.

When your bike is mounted to the 594XT there is no contact with the frame, as it attaches over the front tire, and the rear strap goes over the rim of the rear tire. This means that it is a perfect solution for those higher end Bikes, as well as bikes with carbon fiber frames, disc brakes, thru-axles and other non-traditional frame designs

Another Great feature found on the 594xt, as apposed to other Thule upright bike trays is that the ratcheting arm which secures over the front tire can stay upright on its own during the loading process.

Meaning that you don’t have to hold up the full weight of the bike with one hand while awkwardly having to reach down and raise the arm to secure it with the other.

In terms of security, Thule 549xt has the ability to lock both the Bike to the frame, as well as the bikes to the Rack, but it requires the purchase of a (2) Pack of Thule Lock Cores to do so.
