New for 2010! THULE 480 TRAVERSE GUTTERLESS ROOF RACK SYSTEM

Since the 1960’s when the Thule Company decided to focus their business on automobile related products, and the first roof rack was developed, they strive to be at the forefront of roof rack innovation in terms of quality, and ease of use. The continuation of this tradition will be seen as clearly as ever in the upcoming release of their, New for 2009, Traverse Gutter-less mount Foot Pack System. (as seen on the Subaru WRX seen below)

Not since the development of the original Thule 400 foot pack in 1987 have we seen such a radical overhaul of Thule’s approach to mounting a roof rack system to a vehicle without rain gutters, in terms of safety, aesthetics, & ease of use. For those familiar with the 400(xt) foot pack system, most likely the most noticeable difference is the style of outer cover which protects the inter-workings of the foot pack, as well as allows the foot pack to  integrate seamlessly with any vehicles roof line. The 480 Traverse system comes as a set of (4) feet and it requires the use of Traverse Fit Kits (sold separately) and pair of Thule square load bars (sold separately).

Traverse Fit Kits will be available for use with the Thule 480 Traverse, each Fit Kit designed specifically for use on specific vehicle, for a truly wide range of vehicles. Some fits that would not have been available with the 400(xt) system. The 480 Traverse Foot Pack and Fit Kit bracket combination will deliver the strongest hold, safest fit and easiest installation for total roof rack peace of mind.  The 480’s MaxClamp Technology delivers a more stable system than any competitors current application, and it’s EZ Assemble Design uses 50% fewer parts and requires half the time to install.

 

Similar to the 400(xt) system, the Traverse’s Fit kit comes with a set of (4) pads and (4) clips that, as shown below, go together as easily as a seat belt. The amount of time this saves in terms of installation is staggering!

One of the most revolutionary design features of the 480 Traverse is the AccuTight Tightening Tool which automatically indicates when the car rack is safely and properly attached to vehicle, assuring the safest install on all styles of vehicles. This replaces the 400(xt)’s  more traditional Handle assembly, which leaves itself able to be overtightened, and or tightened too much or too little on one or both sides of the bar. In addition to this marvelous development, the crack engineering team over at Thule has designed the foot pack in a way that you are able to store the AccuTight tools within the towers when not in use.

The Traverse is compatible with Locks and Load Bars that you may have from a previous system. Meaning, that although the design of the Foot Pack and Fit Kits has changed enough that previous models are not compatible, the locks and bars that you have from a previous system may be reusable. As always, if you do not have Locks from a previous application, we highly recommend a (4)pack of Locks to secure the system to your vehicle.

Chevy Colorado – Thule 42 Inch Top Track & Thule 430 Tracker II Foot Pack System

For today’s showcase install we added on to a customer’s previously installed Thule Fiberglass Track System, by adding a Track system onto the cab of his Chevy Colorado, which allows him to now carry longer loads. This system which is a combination between a Thule 430 Tracker II foot pack system and a Thule 42 inch TopTrack with plusnuts that are designed specifically designed to be used on the sheet metal roof of most vehicles.

The best, and most flexible solution, in terms of accessory application, bar spread, and convenience in installation and removal, is a permanently installed set of Thule or Yakima Tracks that will allow the mounting of  a 430 Tracker II foot pack system. For this application the customer opted to go with the Yakima 42 inch tracks, which is designed Specifically for Sheet Metal Roofs. Which in turn allows the mounting of most every Thule or Yakima accessory, such as Roof Top Bike carriers, Ski carriers, Water-sport carriers, as well as cargo bags, baskets and Cargo Boxes, and it is removable in seconds.

Jeep Cherokee Sport Thule Tracker II System – Thule MOAB Cargo Basket & Thule Side Arm Bike Carriersjeep

For today’s showcase install, we have installed a Thule Tracker II Foot Pack System on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport by using a TK2 adapter. The Thule TK2 Tracker Kit attaches to OEM factory rack tracks on multiple vehicles, replacing the factory crossbars and creating a dependable Thule load carrier. The recommeded load bar length for this application is 50 inches, but the owner was interested in carrying a Thule MOAB Cargo Basket (Mother Of All Baskets), with the additional MOAB extension) and (2) Thule Side Arm Upright Bike Trays, so we recommended that they go with a 65 inch Thule Load Bar to ensure that there would be enough room to do so.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon – Thule Permanent Track – 430 Tracker Foot Pack System with Thule MOAB Cargo Basket

For this AWESOME custom application we installed a Thule Custom Track on a Jeep Wrangelr Rubicon. This application allows for the mounting of any Thule and or Yakima accessories. Where as the only previous options for JK and TJ Wrangler owners is the 300 Rain Gutter Foot Pack system. The 300 Tower System is a great system but it only allows for the mounting of bike and ski accessories, and it has to be mounted to the rain gutters over the doors. Meaning anyone with a Freedom Top would not be able to remove it if they wanted to carry any gear. This Custom Application allows the owner to customize their bar spread to suit whatever accessory they are mounting.

Garvin Off Road Series Expedition Racks are available for the new JK Wranglers, CJ-7’s, Wranglers, as well as Unlimited: Soft Tops and Hard Tops. You can now haul more gear and still offer the convenience of easily lowering or raising the soft top.

This particular rack is designed to work with either hard or soft tops. The racks mount securely to the front windshield brackets and to the rear body of the Jeep in two locations. Drilling required for installation. The Expedition Rack can hold up to 300 lbs off-road or on- road. Our specially engineered tilting feature allows you to raise the unloaded rack for lowering or raising the soft top(two people required to tilt the rack due to rack size).
